- Du moyen haut-allemand hahse, hehse, du vieux haut allemand hāhsa, issu du germanique *hahsjō-, qui remonte à l’indo-européen *koḱs-, duquel procèdent le sanskrit कक्ष, kákṣa- « aisselle », l’avestique kaša-, même sens, le latin coxa « hanche » et le vieil irlandais cos « jambe »[1]. Apparenté au néerlandais haas.
