Because of the regularity of Vietnamese orthography, it's possible for a template like {{modl|vie-pron}} to automatically convert Vietnamese to IPA with some particularly convoluted template magic. For compound words, each word must be given in a separate parameter, because it's expensive to search for a space in a string like [[w:en:Template:First word]] and [[w:en:Template:Remove first word]] do. Thus <code><nowiki>{{vie-pron|đại|lục}}</nowiki></code>.

The Vietnamese and Chinese Wiktionaries have used such templates for years, beginning with [[:vi:Bản mẫu:VieIPA]], and they've been incredibly useful for including pronunciation guides in entries that inexperienced users create using boilerplates. (Edit a new entry at the Vietnamese Wiktionary, and use one of the buttons under "Dùng mẫu để viết mục từ".)

Unfortunately, the IPA in {{modl|vie-pron}} matches [[w:en:Wikipedia:IPA for Vietnamese]] more than [[Annexe:Prononciation/vietnamien]], due to different linguists' opinions about certain vowels and consonants.

Alright, I've translated the documentation into English.

Also, JackPotte imported the templates before I had a chance to correct a number of bugs. At the Vietnamese Wiktionary, I also restructured {{modl|vie-pron/VieWVG}} to rely on [[:vi:Đặc biệt:Tiền tố/Bản mẫu:vie-pron/VieWVG/|many, many subtemplates]] rather than a giant <code>#switch:</code> block, similar to how [[w:en:Template:Convert]] works. It may be worth deleting and reimporting the entire set of templates, if that's possible.
