- Du moyen breton buch[1], issu du vieux breton buch, lui-même issu du vieux brittonique *boukkā, dérivé d’un proto-celtique *bōws (« vache, bétail ») (d’où l’irlandais bó, moyen gallois bu), qui remonte à l’indo-européen commun *gʷōws.
- À comparer avec les mots buwch en gallois, bugh en cornique, bó en gaélique irlandais, bo- en gaulois (sens identique).
