Étymologie modifier
- (1851) Mot inventé par le chimiste américain Charles Upham Shepard à partir du grec ancien κάλυπτος, « occulté », parce que le minéral a longtemps échappé à la minéralogie — Shepard en avait vu, sans les reconnaître, pendant une vingtaine d’années[1] [2].
