Étymologie modifier
- (Vers 1904) Le nom est donné par l’américain Robert E. Peary suite à son expédition Peary Arctic Club de 1898–1902.
- Nov. 19 - Mr. Roderick Campbell, F.R.C.S., tells the Canadian Gazette that Commander Peary, U.S.N., in his recent explorations, has named a number of northern places as follows: Buchanan Bay and Straits, Cape Washington, Lincoln Bay, Grant Land, McKinley Sea, Roosevelt Range, Cape Bryant, etc. He wants to know it there is not danger in all this to the territorial rights of Canada and Britain. — (The Canadian Annual Review of Public Affairs: 1903, vol. 3, 1904)
