Du moyen anglais triacle, en partie de l'ancien français triacle et en partie du vieil anglais tiriaca, tous les deux du bas latin *triaca, *tiriaca, forme tardive de theriaca, du grec ancien θηριακή (thēriakḗ, « antidote »), forme féminine de θηριακός (thēriakós, « relatif aux animaux venimeux »), de θήρ (thḗr, « animal sauvage »). Comparer avec theriac, theriacle.
