They are followed by some malerelations and friends of the deceased, and, in many cases, by twoor more persons of some sect of darweeshes, bearing the flags oftheir order. This is a general custom at the funeral of a darweesh.Next follow three or four or more schoolboys ; one of whomcarries a mus-haf (or copy of the Kur-dn), or a volume con-sisting of one of the thirty sections of the Kur-an, placed upon akind of desk formed of palm-sticks, and covered over, generallywith an embroidered kerchief. The following is a translation of the commencement of thispoem:— (I extol) the perfection of Him who hath created whatever hath form;And subdued His servants by death : Who bringeth to nought (all) His creatures, with mankind;They shall all lie in the graves :The perfection of the Lord of the east :^The perfection of the Lord of the west : ^The perfection of the illuminator of the two lights;The sun, to wit, and the moon :His perfection : how bountiful is He 1His perfection : how clement is He !His perfection: how great is He !When a servant rebellelh against Him, He protecteth.
