Description: A young man suffering from smallpox, with arms, torso, and face covered in the maculopapular rash and blisters characteristic of the disease.
Smallpox, or variola, was an infectious, highly contagious disease caused by a Variola virus. Due to vaccination campaigns in the 19th and 20th centuries, the World Health Organization certified its eradication in 1980.
