- (Fantassin) Du tchèque dráb (« laquais, fantassin ») dérivé de l’allemand Trabant (« garde du corps »), apparenté à drabant en français.
- (Homme effrayant) Du vieux slave drabъ qui donne драбы, drab (« os ») en biélorusse, дрябь, drjabʹ en russe[1]. Le dérivé drabina (« échelle ») est à rapprocher de l’allemand Treppe (« escalier ») et, pour le lien sémantique entre ces deux mots, à notre échalas (« bâton, barreau [d’échelle] », « grand homme »).
