Étymologie modifier
- Apparait en tant que 朱蒙 à la page 2213 du centième tome du livre des Wei, et signifie « bon tireur », « bon archer » (en chinois archaïque et médiéval : 善射). Le premier caractère, 朱, prononcé \ṭio\, serait apparenté au moyen coréen 둏, qui signifie « être bon ». En revanche, l'étymologie du second caractère, 蒙 \moŋ\ ou 牟 \mu\, est inconnue. Il semble même impossible de le rapprocher du moyen mongol ᠮᠡᠷᠭ᠋ᠡᠨ.
